" I get lots of messages from people asking me how to create an anti-aging regimen.
This can look different for lots of people but there are a few staples that are applicable regardless of your age.."
1. Suncreen
I know I sound like a broken record by now, but sunscreen is a non-negotiable. If you are worried about wrinkles you should be worried about UVA rays. These rays travel to our skin and damage our collagen and elastin.
Even on a cloudy day, UVA rays are present. They even penetrate the glass of our car windows! Swipe to see an iconic photo illustrating the impact of UVA rays on this truck driver's face! Notice that the left (driver's) side is significantly more aged! It is silly to spend hundreds on anti-aging regimens and treatments (ie: Botox) without ensuring you are SERIOUS about your daily sunscreen application!
2. Retinoids
Retinoids are a staple to a nighttime anti-aging regimen. Research shows that retinoids help to stimulate collagen production and reduce their breakdown.
The best type of retinoid? A prescription from your doctor. If you can't get a prescription, then over the counter retinol can be helpful too. Look for formulations with 1% retinol for greatest efficacy.
To avoid irritation, use a pea sized amount to the entire face at night. Apply only a few times a week until you are able to tolerate nightly application.
3. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is the next thing to consider adding to your regimen. It is an antioxidant that protects your skin from environmental damage (free radicals) which usually cause inflammation, discoloration and wrinkles.
Apply in the morning, after cleansing your skin and before applying your sunscreen. Not all Vitamin C serums are created equally.
This is where I think it's worth it to splurge when you're buying skin care items on a budget. Look for opaque packaging and store it in a dark cool place (cabinet/drawer).
